I now fully appreciate that magic of Christmas! This year was the best Christmas ever because we got to share it with our little angel. We brought our little elf to church at 5 pm on Christmas eve, where she wriggled and twisted around, did a bit of yelling, climbing and smiling, not to mention entertaining all those around us. But, considering mass was at dinner time and was longer than normal, she did a fantastic job. We then trotted over to Kim and Monty's for their annual Christmas bash, where we got to socialize, eat some goodies and, again, watch Adelyn entertain. It's so much fun to watch, I have to admit! We were home around 9:30 pm to change Adelyn into the new pj's the Pajama Elf brought, put her down to sleep and then patiently wait for Santa to arrive.
Christmas itself started like most Christmas' before, with my not being able to sleep in the middle of the night. It turns out that it's a genetic malfunction as I found out both my sister and mom couldn't sleep and neither could my aunt or my cousin. Weird.
Anyway, Adelyn woke up around 7 am and then the three of us went out into the living room to look at all the twinkling lights on the tree and look at all the gifts Santa left under it.
Adelyn started by opening her stocking first and after I opened a couple gifts for her she got the idea and would look forward to the next bit of paper being ripped off so she could see what was inside. It was so cute to watch her little face as she recognized the book/duck/toy inside and got excited to play! There were a couple points where she had a toy in her hand and then noticed a new one across the room and was completely torn...should she stay with the one she has or go get the new one? She ultimately decided to try and crawl to the new toy, while still keeping the other one in her hand. It was simply precious.
After opening our gifts and me completely destroying breakfast (did you know if you bake eggs long enough they turn into plastic?), Adelyn had a nap and Andrew and I started to get ready for the rest of our day.
We left our place around 11:30 and stopped off at my parents where Adelyn got to open some more presents and share the magic of Christmas with a child with my parents, Lindsay and Marlon. She got some pretty cool gifts there (as did Andrew and I) and was especially fond of her very first cell phone!
After our brief stint at my parents we were off to Auntie Judy's for the Korbeld family Christmas shin-dig. Adelyn was fantastic! She yelled and made the fun faces and actions she always does, but this time was able to entertain a much larger crowd! I don't know who had more fun- her or her audience!
We left the Korbeld shin-dig at 5 pm and headed off to Andrew's parents for (another) Christmas dinner and our last stop of the day. Adelyn again was the center of attention and gave and received gifts with Grandma and Grandpa, Auntie Heather and Uncle David. A great meal was had by all and then finally it was time for our tuckered out little Christmas angel to go to sleep. After a few minutes of intense yelling (she just wanted to make sure we knew she wasn't impressed with having to go to bed) she zonked right out and the rest of us enjoyed the evening talking about just about everything. It was very nice to sit and relax at the end of a long day.
Just before midnight we piled our newly received treasures up into the car and came home where we put Adelyn's first Christmas to rest. It was an absolutely fantastic and magical day. It truly was the best Christmas I've ever had. I can't wait to share it with her again in the years to come.
