Busy Lil Baby

We've been such a busy little family this past week or so, it's been difficult to find time to sit down and then actually think about what to write on here...
So, maybe just a few updates will do.

The hour and a half long nap was a one-time deal (too bad!) However, her naps have been getting progressively longer. So maybe the hour and a half long nap will return, and will be here for good!

Adelyn's trying sooo hard to crawl. Well, actually, she doesn't seem interested in crawling, but she's definitely not interested in staying still, thank you very much. She either lifts her bum up and then slides forward on her face, or she lifts up on her arms and legs and then scoots forward. Whenever I go get her in her crib in the night or morning she's always scooted right up to the far end of the crib and her head is usually pressed right up against the wood. I think she might actually sleep longer if she didn't keep hitting her head on the crib wall every time she moved.

I think we're a few short weeks away from cutting teeth. Adelyn's drooling like a mad woman and seems to be displaying all the other signs of teething. I'd just like her teeth/tooth to come through already so the drool might let up a little bit!

Her cereal-eating is getting better. She can usually finish most of the bowl (about 1-2 tbsps of rice cereal) each night. You can tell she wants to eat and drink regular stuff badly... she stares at you and "chews" right along with you. Soon enough (once she's 6 months) I'll start feeding her other foods besides the incredibly tasty rice cereal.

Drama queen. Yes, it's true... I think we're the proud parents of one. Adelyn has not hesitated to tell us exactly how she feels about certain things. She will shriek if we put her in her car seat if she doesn't want to go into it and move around and pull on the straps like they're way too tight and she's being choked. Only, we haven't tightened them yet. So we look and her and say something to her and she stops screaming, so we know she's OK. But, just in case there's any doubt about it, she's letting us know she's not too keen on being strapped in. Funny girl...

We're also set to start sign language pretty soon. I can't wait! As it stands right now I've been signing "milk" to her when I feed her. But I'm not doing it every time, so I should really start so she starts to understand. We saw how well signing worked for our friends Jeff and Marissa with their daughter and we're very excited to be able to communicate clearly with Adelyn!

And speaking of Jeff and Marissa, Adelyn went to meet their new little baby, Peanut #2 (Cooper Jacob) yesterday. He was born Friday night and is doing very well. He's heavier (by 5 oz.) than Adelyn was but I swear Adelyn was never that tiny! It's crazy how fast they grow and how much they change in 5 short months!

Anyway, I sliced my finger pretty badly on Friday while cutting up some bread and typing is quite painful, so I should go.

Hour and a Half Long Nap and Counting!

Just a quick update to say Adelyn has been napping for the last hour and a half! Those of you who are familiar with her 40-minute (tops) naps know this is quite impressive! She dozed off just before 12:30 this afternoon and then at about 1:00 she started to cry. So I turned her from her tummy onto her back, put the soother in her mouth, gave her her little bear thingy and she drifted back off to sleep! I'm amazed!
During this nap I've got caught up on all my book keeping, I've filed away all the old bills and such that have been cluttering our office desk, I got caught up on all my emails and now I'm even blogging! Wow- just imagine the things I could get done around the house if Adelyn made a habit of taking long naps like this!

Anyway, for fear of her waking up as I write this, I should get going. I'm going to take advantage of this nap time and maybe even unload the dishwasher and take something out for dinner!

Little Miss Chatterbox

Well holidays have come and gone and you know you've had a good time away when you're not ready to come home! I think we all really needed the break, and time away from our house (and the hellions that live all around us!) to refresh and relax. We had a great time... from just hanging out and chatting, to getting pictures of Adelyn's first time at the Ocean and of course, indulging in the gigantic "single scoop" ice-cream cones they sell at Pacific Playgrounds. Good times :)

The journey to the island was fantastic. Adelyn slept until just past Langley and then chatted to herself and her friend in the mirror until we got to the ferries. At one point she even picked up her soother and put it back in her mouth all by herself! We were quite impressed!
We had a one sailing wait at the ferry where we just hung out in the car and then we loaded the big boat and got a prime spot by the women's washroom (lots of traffic). Adelyn had a fantastic time, she was standing on Andrew's lap and leaning and looking into the isle where everyone was walking by. And then she started yelling. I guess she's REALLY found her voice because she would talk/yell to everyone that walked by. It was adorable!

The way home from the ferry wasn't so great. While we only had a 30 minute wait for the ferry to come home we spent every second of that wait time hosing Adelyn and her car seat off, as her diaper failed to do its job and everything was just soaking wet! We unfortunately had to put the poor little one back in the wet seat (on top of a receiving blanket, but still uncomfortable I'm sure), but she was such a trooper and didn't cry about it. She just babbled and then slept all the way home.

Then Andrew headed up to Celista that same night while Adelyn and I spent the night at home as I had to shoot a wedding the next day. But that night we loaded up the car again and head up to Celista to join Andrew and our friends at their house. Again Adelyn slept and then babbled and chatted with her friend in the mirror, until we got to the toll plaza that is. Then she started crying. And crying, and crying some more. Oh well, only 63 kilometres to Merritt! Once in Merritt I stopped at a McDonalds to see what was wrong with Adelyn. Well, wouldn't you know it, her diaper failed us all again! But this time I was alone and had to try and change her and clean everything up in the bathroom of a McDonalds! Not too much fun.
But I got everything all done and Adelyn was calm, ate and then went back into her (wet) seat. So I thought we were good, but no, the crying continued until the far edge of Kamloops. Lovely...
I can't really blame her though, as her seat was still wet (through the receiving blanket) when we got to Celista.
In Celista she was such a little darling with everyone; flirting with boys and then hiding her head in my chest like she's embarrassed! It was so cute! And again, she babbled and chatted with everyone- I think she just really enjoys being a part of the action.

I somehow managed to pick up a weird virus while we were there, feeling incredibly drunk and hot, as though I had heat stroke. I may very well have had heat stroke, but then I woke up with a rash, so that's why the doctor thinks there was a virus along the way.

ANYWAY, all is well, we're all feeling rested and Andrew's back from his five days of working up north (Ft. St. John, Mackenzie, Chetwynd, Hudson's Hope, etc.) and we're slowly starting to get back into regular life.

And we just love having Adelyn along for the ride :)

We're off to the fair now...
